The Maldives welcomes a new underwater restaurant in its list of unique dining establishments. The restaurant called “5.8”, due to its depth which is 5.8 meters under the sea, will be the biggest attraction of the newest luxury resort to open in the Maldives by November 2016. Hurawalhi Island Resort is located on the Lhaviyani Atoll and will be a 5-star, adults-only resort. It is approximately 35 minutes via seaplane.

Although “5.8” is not the first underwater restaurant in the Indian Ocean, it is by far the largest. The transparent, acrylic dome is 59 feet across by 16 feet high and can hold up to 16 guests at once. The structure offers breathtaking panoramic views of the sea floor and it is strategically situated near the resort’s rich reefs to make sure guests can see the vibrant marine life from all sides.

Hurawalhi’s sister company, Conrad Rangali, opened the first underwater restaurant in the Maldives called Ithaa in 2005. Due to its success, the company has decided to create another one but make it more exclusive and romantic hence the newest resort in its collection.

The restaurant will be accessible through a bungalow above water with a 13-meter spiral staircase. The food will be prepared above water as well and will be sent down through a special dumbwaiter to the restaurant below. It has also been announced that Shanon Baton, a world famous chef from New Zealand, will be the one leading the team. The restaurant serves other purposes too such as wedding reception venue and even as a honeymoon suite for those who are brave enough to sleep under water. No matter what occasion you are celebrating, this is one resort that should be on your list as an individual or a couple for an unforgettable experience.
